TNC Drivers to have State Background Checks Soon

Under a new agreement between transportation network companies (TNC) and Governor Charlie Baker’s administration, Uber and Lyft drivers in Massachusetts are required to pass a state-run background check by early April.

The popular Uber/ Lyft ride services already have their requirement of getting driver’s background check conducted by third-party vendors before they drive on road. According to a law passed during summer, drivers were required to pass both checks, one from company and other from the state.

CEO of Dav El / Boston Coach Chauffeured Transportation Network and a board director of National Limousine Association, Scott Solombrino said that fingerprinting remains to be a controversial issue, but the fight ain’t over. He expects that next year fingerprint check will be added to the security process in the legislation. He said it is good for the state, and the fact that we think there’s an even better system around, then that it’s called fingerprinting.

As per state law, taxi drivers do not need to undergo fingerprinting, but they exist in some cities, including Boston.

Solombrino wonders whether any current Uber drivers who underwent companies’ background checks may be taken off the road as per the state’s check. This we will know about in the coming six months, he added. Department of Public Utilities Chairwoman Angela O’Connor said that the state background check will not simply be similar to the companies’ process, but will be different.

  1. The safety and security of the riding public is a top priority, and this agreement will set a national standard for the most comprehensive state background checks for TNC drivers in the country.
Transportation Network organizations have driven a huge measure of progress in this industry, and with that change comes a duty to ensure that travelers utilizing these administrations are as sheltered as they can be. This will protect consumers and enhance public safety.

  2. In the event that the occupation relies on driving, would you need a person with an awful driving record speaking to your association? Imagine a scenario where your representative is a businessperson and goes on customer visits. Consider the obligation included if a sales representative were to harm a customer while driving them to lunch. Another thing to consider is that somebody has a careless driving record, they might be rash about different things like keeping up their vehicle. Sounds entertaining? Not under any condition. In the event that your auto is a wreck, you could make a terrible impact on a potential customer, so back ground checks are very necessary
